Jesus said: “The hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. However, because of inaccurate translation, many miss the fact that Jesus meant ‘Resurrection of Judgment‘. There is a big difference between Condemnation and Judgment. Having said that, both Resurrections are what happens at the sound of the Voice of the Son of God. Right before this, Jesus said ‘The Son of God has Life in Himself’. When He speaks, Life flows. That’s why both are called ‘Resurrection’. One is the beginning of a change in human consciousness and the other is the completion of it. We can’t have the truth unless He executes His Judgment. Only then we can perceive the truth. That’s why Resurrection of Judgment is our rising into the very presence of God where He begins to speak into our ignorance and the blind eyes, the deaf ears and the hard hearts receive His blessing. This will be followed by a greater Resurrection, which is not anymore in His presence only, but ‘where He is’, on the Throne, being the Throne of Judgment. This will make us sit as a Judge, just as it is promised to all who ‘overcome’. Jesus said what will judge, is His Word. There was a Word that He spoke, it was planted in the hearts, as Dead. But then one more He speaks, the Word, and that brings about Resurrection of what was dead. Pharisees were called whitewashed Tomb, they were carrying the dead around. They Word was dead inside of them. But the Voice of the Son of God began to change one of them, Saul of Tarsus, who became Paul the apostle of Jesus Christ. This Resurrection is a continuous work of the Spirit of God, until we fully attain the Resurrection of the Dead, mentioned in Philippians 3, when not only our consciousness, heart, mind etc are effected by it, but our physical body is also transformed. That body is called the Body of Glory.

Major points:

We have more than 200 Free videos with over 400 hours of teachings in our YouTube Channel? Thank you for joining us with another session of What Jesus Meant series. In this session we are going to talk about a couple of verses in John chapter five verses 28 and 29, where Jesus is talking about the Resurrection of Life and Resurrection of Condemnation. So, Masoud, What do you see in these scriptures?

Masoud: Okay, let’s first read these two verses and see there are a couple of words that are very important. So we’re going to spend a couple of minutes on them and just to see overall what Jesus meant. Let’s read:

For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted to the Son to have life in Himself and it has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. Do not Marvel at this for the hour is coming, in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth. Those who have done good to the resurrection of life and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation.

First of all, the word Condemnation should be corrected. The Greek word that is used here is the word ‘Judgment‘. So there is no such a thing as resurrection of condemnation. There is a resurrection of life and resurrection of judgment, which we are going to see what they are.

But before that we have to see what Jesus meant every time that He spoke, because every time He said, “whoever has an ear to hear“, was trying to say, ‘What’ you hear is not important but ‘How’ you hear is important. Because we can all hear the same thing but have different understanding. So it applies to everything that Jesus said. That’s why we have the name of the series, WHAT JESUS MEANT.

Therefore, when He’s talking about The Dead, and then The Resurrection, when He’s talking about let’s say hearing the voice of the Son of God, we have to go beyond the surface and understand what Jesus was trying to say. Because these are Mysteries of The Kingdom which He came to reveal. And in understanding these mysteries, we can benefit from those revelations and we can inherit the kingdom that He came to bring to us.

So, now let’s look at the word Grave because He says in verse 28:

For the hour is coming, in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth…

All who are in the grave….but you can’t find anything in the grave except the dead. the grave is meant for the dead. So now we have to see what the grave is! Did Jesus really talk here about a grave in the sense of physical grave – which I believe it is part of the story – but that’s the end of this. Meaning there is a resurrection out of physical graves for those who are dead. But we also believe that you don’t need to go into grave to have that resurrection. Nonetheless those who died would also come out of the grave. But now we are not talking about this group.

We’re talking about a progression of resurrection life to the point that you are fully being resurrected. We are talking about being made alive in Christ to the point that you finally have the fullness of life, the eternal life of God, the life of the ages, the life that never perishes, the life that never gets faded, the life that never will be destroyed, but it comes to the fulfillment, to the completion of what it was supposed to be.

So let’s go and look at a couple of verses that Jesus talked about in other places. Let’s go to Luke chapter 11 and quickly look at some of the famous verses that Jesus mentioned. Luke 11:43:

Woe to you, Pharisees for you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.

Jesus speaking to Pharisees and Scribes, calls them hypocrites, and says ‘Woe to you’

For you are like graves, which are not seen.

Jesus says to a group of people, “You are Graves”!

In John chapter five, we read that He said “all who are in the graves shall come forth“. And then when they come forth, there will be two types of ‘resurrection’. One is Resurrection of Life, one is Resurrection of Judgment. And we just saw that He called some ‘Graves’!

For you are like graves, which are not seen. And men who walk over them are not aware of them.

Let’s continue reading:

Then one of the lawyers answered and said to him, teacher by saying these things, you reproach us also. And He said, woe to you also lawyer.

So He goes all the way to Scribes, the Pharisees to Lawyers calling all of them ‘Graves’.

Now let’s go to Matthew chapter 23 just to see the same thing, but maybe with more details. Verse 29:

Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. Because you build the tombs of the prophets. You build the graves of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous.

The word monument again is actually the word grave, but it is another form of the word Grave, is more of that thing that you put on the grave, a monument, a remembrance (that word comes from the word remembering). So He says that you are the ones who build a tomb for the prophets. Now, if you remember Paul in 1 Corinthians chapter 13 and 14, speaks concerning the gifts of the Holy Spirit, one of which is the gift of prophecy. And he says, when you prophesy, you build. Because the prophecy is for building and edifying. So when you prophesy, you build.

Now He says the whole thing about prophecy was to build, was to build a building. Now He says, but you Pharisees, what you build is a Grave. What does that mean? That means that:

The word that was prophesied by the prophets goes into you and becomes dead. And then you yourself become the grave for that word.

What does that mean? That means the prophecy never came to fulfillment, but it was buried in you. That’s even how you kill a prophet. Remember Jesus said that no prophet has ever died outside of Jerusalem and He said even the Son of Man must be crucified in Jerusalem. And that happened because the thing is more beyond the natural killing.

When you kill a prophet, you kill everything that he has. And the only thing that he has is a Word from God, is a message from God. So the way you kill a prophet is by you not believing his word.

He adds:

You build the tombs of the prophets and adorns the monuments of the righteous and say, if we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. Therefore, you are witnesses against yourself that are sons of those who murdered the prophets. You are the sons of those who murdered the prophets.

That means you’re STILL murdering the prophets. That means you are going to do the same thing that your fathers did, which is to kill Me. Why? Because Jesus was THE Word, THE Message that came on earth and became flesh, but now they’re going to kill Him.

What we are trying to see is, that God from the beginning has a spoken Word, and His word from the beginning was Life for mankind. That Word came to mankind and they heard but didn’t believe, and by doing so they buried that Word inside of them. They themselves became the walking grave. Jesus said to the Pharisees and scribes, that you are the graves. You are like the graves. We have to be very careful whenever there is something that is literal, just to take it as literal. And whenever it’s a metaphor, to take it as a metaphor. Because there is no such a thing as it’s all metaphor and there is no such thing as it’s all literal. We have to understand, because Jesus literally healed the person, so we can’t deny that, and we can’t deny that Jesus still heals people and we have seen it, many have seen it. But also we have to understand when He comes and speaks about the mysteries, we must go beyond the surface. Now, if He talks about the grave and the dead, we must understand what the dead is and we have to understand what that resurrection of life is and what the resurrection of judgment is.

Okay, so now let’s go to a few verses before this. Look at verse 27:

Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites for you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside or inwardly are full of dead bones and all uncleanness.

Jesus says, now you are the tomb. And inside there is dead bones. Dead bones! He is saying that causes you to outwardly appear as a whitewashed tomb, meaning a clean thing, but there is no life in you. And He adds, but clean the inside, the inward part, and the outside will be clean also. Let’s go to 2 Corinthians 4 verse 16:

Therefore we do not lose heart even though our outward man, even though our outward man is perishing. So Jesus said, outwardly, you appear beautiful to ascribes. Now here he says, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

And Jesus said, clean the inward and the outward would be clean also. But in that context, He said, inside is the dead bones. Inside (or on the inward) there are dead bones and no bone was supposed to be dead. Bone was made to have life in itself. Bone was to have flesh coming over it. Bone was supposed to form the skeleton for man. Paul says, now I’m not trying to clean the outward anymore, but I’m focusing on renewing of myself inwardly. What is he trying to say? He says, I’m trying to let every bone that was dead inside of me to come to life. So no longer I have a dead bone, no longer I’m a grave or a whitewashed tomb (Paul formerly was a Pharisee also). And if Jesus said, woe to you pharisees, Paul or Saul should have heard it too. Now Paul is expressing his desire saying I don’t want to be that way anymore, but I’m looking for the renewing that is happening inwardly. If we go Colossians, chapter three, we can find what is the thing that he says is being renewed day by day. Verse 10:

And have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.

So he says, it’s the New Man that is being renewed day by day. But in 2 Corinthians 4:16 he said, I am being renewed inwardly.
